Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical reports that the Lakers are not willing to give away assets to get rid of big contracts.
The Lakers signed Timofey Mozgov and Luol Deng to long expensive contracts last offseason. It appears they already want out from under the weight of those deals. Deng and Mozgov are the highest paid players on the team and yet they only averaged a combined 15 points and each played less than 60 games. Teams won’t be lining up to help the Lakers unload and those who do will want one of their young prospects or future lottery picks to swallow those hefty contracts. Magic Johnson now calls the shots and it appears he won’t pay that price. Cap space will become very important because next offseason Paul George will be a free agent and has expressed his desire to play in Los Angeles.
