The Magic have completed an overhaul of their front office, hiring former Raptors GM Jeff Weltman as the President of Basketball Operations while bringing in former Bucks GM John Hammond to fill the same role.
That’s quite a pair of pickups for the organization, who will look to erase some of the missteps of the Rob Hennigan era. While much of the credit in Toronto went to team President Masai Ujiri, Weltman served as his right hand man and was an unheralded part of the franchise’s major turnaround. Hammond has been guiding the Bucks back to relevancy and struck gold with the selection of Giannis Antetokounmpo and the trade for Khris Middleton. Hammond and Weltman both worked together in Milwaukee and interestingly enough it was Weltman who pushed the Bucks to take the Greek Freak shortly before he left for Toronto. Both executives have left their last stops better off than when they arrived, so Magic fans have to be excited by the prospects of new leadership.
