The Magic have selected forward Jonathan Isaac out of Florida State with the sixth pick in the draft.
Isaac joins a crowded frontcourt in Orlando but will be the foundation of the team’s core. He’s coming off a season in which he averaged 12.0 points, 7.8 rebounds and 1.5 blocks in just 26.2 minutes per game. While the Seminoles didn’t have a ton of success, Isaac was a bright spot and flashed tremendous defensive versatility. Able to guard up to four positions, he should be a dream for defensive-oriented Frank Vogel. The 6’11” youngster should be able to get minutes as a combo forward and may even play some five down the line. Any offensive improvement and he could be truly special. Until then he won’t be much of a fantasy play unless he gets huge minutes from the jump. With Terrence Ross and Aaron Gordon in town it’s likely that he’ll start in a reserve role.
