The agent for restricted free agent Moe Harkless said that his client is considering taking the Blazers’ qualifying offer so he can become a free agent next summer.
With the Blazers deciding on Allen Crabbe earlier today it’s possible we see some movement on the Harkless front. Teams offering him a deal will now know how much cap room the Blazers have to spare, so they can have a better sense of what it will take to actually pluck him away. He really picked things up toward the end of the year and he’s a solid young player to acquire, but teams are probably wary of paying anything with double figures per year. If he is only going to net $5-8 million per year on an offer sheet he could do much better next season by gambling on himself, but that’s also risky business because the Blazers wouldn’t be invested in his future anymore. Stay tuned.
