ESPN’s Marc Stein is hearing that the Pistons could be willing to trade the 12th overall pick if it means acquiring some veteran help.
Detroit disappointed this past season, failing to qualify for the playoffs despite another year of presumed growth under Stan Van Gundy. Now it seems that the team is willing to sell some future assets for a player who can help them win in the short term. The Pistons have to figure out exactly where they stand with Andre Drummond and Reggie Jackson, who have both been rumored to be available as of late, before they make any big moves. With Kentavious Caldwell-Pope also a popular target for other teams, there are plenty of moving parts for Detroit to keep an eye on this summer. It’s unclear exactly what position this “win-now” veteran would play, but the Pistons can be flexible since they could stand to upgrade at pretty much every spot on the floor. Of course, a win-now move with this roster core might not be the optimal choice anyway. We’ll see what comes of this report as the draft inches closer.
