Masai Ujiri had an interesting press conference this morning in which he said it’s unrealistic to expect all four of the team’s free agents (Kyle Lowry, Serge Ibaka, P.J. Tucker, Patrick Patterson) to return next season.
Ujiri also said that Lowry will be the team’s top priority this summer. Ibaka and Tucker were strong mid-season acquisitions, filling the team’s long-standing hole at power forward and providing them an elite one-on-one defender, respectively. Patterson has long been a pillar of Toronto’s successful bench units but really struggled this season, battling injury and then having his minutes taken away by the new arrivals. The Raptors are facing some big decisions, though retaining Ibaka and Lowry probably keeps them in the East’s upper tier. Patterson and Tucker filled similar roles but Tucker’s strong performance after the trade certainly jacked his price up. Whatever the case, expect Toronto to have a new-look roster next season.
