The Pacers can add the Cavs, Clippers, Rockets and Wizards to the list of known Paul George suitors, per ESPN’s Marc Stein.
They join the Lakers, who are the presumptive favorites, in a quest to trade for the superstar forward. It’s certainly a gamble given that George’s heart is reportedly set on the Lakers, meaning that these teams could all be looking at a rental player if they can’t convince him to re-sign. The Clippers are a fascinating fit that offers a chance to win plus the hometown appeal, though they lack the glitz and glamour of the other L.A. franchise. George would also be quite fun in Houston’s up-tempo system while him joining Washington’s All-Star backcourt could tip the balance of power in the East. On the other hand, the Clippers have their own key free agents to worry about and the Rockets and Wizards simply don’t have much to offer the rebuilding Pacers. Unless they hand over bushels of future draft picks, packages from the Lakers or Cavs should be far more competitive. These teams will need to make some space if they want to sign PG13 long-term, so expect plenty of rumors about other deals to start leaking out.
