The Celtics may be the favorites to acquire Kristaps Porzingis if the Knicks decide to pull the trigger, as ESPN’s Ian Begley reports that they have offered their No. 3 pick, a player and an additional lottery pick in exchange for the Latvian superstar.
It’s a very competitive package, and one the Knicks would be hard-pressed to improve upon with other teams. They’d get a shot at Josh Jackson (whom they reportedly covet), as well a second lottery pick that Boston believes they can acquire tonight. Rumors have New York asking for a top pick and a young asset, and Jaylen Brown’s name is floating around as the potential player in this deal. That checks both boxes for the Knicks, who have decided to run their franchise player out of town in the past 72 hours. It’d be a stunner (and a coup) that would allow Boston to get a young superstar, helping them both now and down the road. The Knicks still might not make the trade, but we’ll have to wait and see what tonight holds.
Update: Now we get some reporting on what the Knicks are asking for. Today is going to be great.
NBA source confirms NYDN report that NY wants both Nets picks, Brown and Crowder for Porzingis. "(Phil Jackson) is just messing with things"
