Heat guard Dion Waiters will reportedly decline his player option for the upcoming season and he will enter free agency this summer according to ESPN’s Chris Haynes.
The 25-year-old Waiters will decline his $3.2 million option in the hopes of landing a more lucrative, long-term deal this summer. The deadline for Waiters to make a decision is not until June 29 but according to Haynes, the Heat are aware of his intentions. Waiters had a breakout season posting averages of 15.8 points, 4.3 assists and 3.3 rebounds on 40 percent shooting from three; his averages in assists, rebounds and three-point percentage are all career-highs. He has expressed interest in returning to the Heat next season but multiple teams will come calling. Waiters produced top-160 value last season but had spurts where he was producing at a top-70 value mark.
