Vincent Goodwill of CSN Chicago is reporting that the Bulls have been informed of Dwyane Wade’s intentions to opt in for next season.
Wade’s option is worth $23.8 million, and he’s unlikely to see that much in free agency. A bevy of teams are maneuvering to clear space in potentially far-reaching transaction webs revolving around the sudden movement of league superstars over the next two seasons, so the list of teams willing to commit upwards of $20 million on D-Wade would likely be short. The Bulls may still trade Jimmy Butler and kick off a major rebuild, though the presence of Wade for one more season wouldn’t slow the tank all that much. It may not make him the happiest camper but he took plenty of pay cuts to help the Heat over the years and deserves to maximize his money.
