ESPN’s Ian Begley is reporting that some in the organization would like the Knicks to revisit trade discussions with the Wolves in an effort to acquire Ricky Rubio.
The two teams were allegedly very close on a trade that would’ve sent Rubio to New York and Derrick Rose to Minnesota around the deadline before someone pulled the plug. That deal would’ve been a massive steal for the Knicks, so it’s no surprise they’d like to circle back on a player they’re clearly interested in. Rose is now a free agent while Rubio turned in a fantastic second half of the season so it’d have to be an entirely new framework if any trade were to go down. The Knicks definitely need a point guard and Minnesota has Kris Dunn waiting in the wings, but this seems like a longshot.
