According to Jordan Schultz of the Huffington Post, the Lakers would pass on selecting Lonzo Ball at second overall “if the draft was today.”
That’s an important caveat, as they haven’t had the chance to workout or interview with the top prospect. Ball has generated the most headlines of any prospect thanks to the antics of his father, an issue that Schultz hears is concerning to the Lakers. While he has declined to meet with the Celtics he’s been rumored to do at least some work with the Sixers and Suns who pick third and fourth overall, despite his camp’s decree that he’ll only be a Laker. This is one of the first reports out there that has Ball going anywhere besides LA, so for now Ball-to-the-Lakers remains the most likely scenario.
