NBA TV’s Scott Howard Cooper reports that Lonzo Ball is not a slam dunk pick for the Lakers at No. 2 in the upcoming draft with De’Aaron Fox likely to emerge as a real option for the purple and gold.
This is the second recent report that disputes the long-held notion that Ball would be LA-bound come draft night. Cooper praises the character of Kentucky’s Fox, describing him as mature and smart. While the two sides haven’t met yet it’s been mostly positive things surrounding Fox as his draft stock continues to rise. Of course, it’s important to remember that there’s plenty of maneuvering behind the scenes this time of year and that these type of reports don’t tend to get out without serving somebody’s purpose. While any sort of speculation should be taken with a grain of salt, the idea that the Lakers could pass on Ball appears to be gaining some momentum. It’s still highly likely that he comes off the board at No. 2, but Fox seems very much on LA’s radar.
