According to Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News, Phil Jackson recently met with Kristaps Porzingis’ agent in an effort to discuss some of the young star’s issues with the Knicks and their direction.
Those issues famously led to Porzingis skipping his exit interview at the end of the season. Interestingly enough, KP is represented by his older brother, Janis, and was overseas when the Zen Master scheduled a sitdown. Bondy reports that the meeting did little to change anyone’s mind, as “Jackson remained steadfast in his ways and direction.” He also reports that Jackson will try and tailor the team’s workouts and training sessions around learning and incorporating the infamous triangle offense. You wouldn’t think that Jackson could alienate two stars in such short order, but it looks like we’re headed down that path. Porzingis wants to be in New York but also wants a competitive team and a positive culture; two things that seem like longshots under the current regime. We’ll see what the future holds.
