The Sacramento Bee reported on Friday that unrestricted free agent Ryan Anderson is “expected to pass on a chance to play for his hometown team.”
Houston is a place that seems logical for Anderson with their hiring of Mike D’Antoni and their trend toward offensive basketball over the defensive side. GM Daryl Morey needs to rack up some wins and James Harden can’t be thrilled about a rebuild, so making a short-term push over the long-term chance this deal goes upside down at least fits the script. Anderson is still on a handful of teams’ lists and he could very well hit something in the ballpark of $17 million per year. But with waning effectiveness already and injury concerns he is among the most polarizing mid-tier free agents of this class.
