The Sixers have picked up the $1.6 million team option on Robert Covington for next season.
The classic Sam Hinkie three-year deal really worked out for the Sixers here. Covington’s knee issues have brought about questions regarding his lateral quickness. At the same time, his size and defensive instincts have created a formidable package on that end — so long as he doesn’t get too slow and be limited to covering SG/SF types. He’s going to get a huge raise next year no matter what, but for the shooting-deficient Sixers he’s going to be a main cog next season.
