Wayne Ellington and the Heat agreed on a two-year, $12 million deal on Sunday.
This is a bit of a head scratcher since Ellington hasn’t really stood out during his NBA career and there were probably better ways to spend the money (like give it to Dwyane Wade). Perhaps that’s conflating two separate issues but surely Wade, Joe Johnson and Luol Deng’s exit caused the Heat to want to improve their depth on the wings. Even if Ellington were to somehow bubble to the top of the rotation, he doesn’t produce enough statistically for owners to make an investment.
Update: $12 million deal only includes one guaranteed season, a source told Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald.
