Will Barton will not agree to a contract extension with the Nuggets and is headed for unrestricted free agency next offseason, per ESPN’s Chris Haynes.
Barton is one of the NBA’s most lethal sixth men, and as such it’s very hard to imagine him not testing the market. While there are plenty of moving parts in Denver, Jamal Murray, Malik Beasley and Juan Hernangomez seem penciled into long-term roles at the two and three spots, taking minutes and potentially starting jobs away from Will the Thrill. While he might not be able to land a guaranteed starting gig next summer, Barton has certainly earned consideration. Given the big money that Allen Crabbe received this past offseason, Barton is lined up for a hefty raise so long as his play doesn’t go into the tank next year. He’s got top-100 upside (especially if someone gets injured) but there are just so many mouths to feed in Denver that it’ll be tough to use more than a late-round selection on him in fantasy drafts.
