The Mavs have ruled Dennis Smith Jr. out of their upcoming two-game road trip thanks to a hip injury.
The organizational priority here is to make sure that Smith, the team’s prized rookie and hopeful cornerstone, will get to 100 percent before returning to action. He’s becoming a tougher hold in standard leagues thanks to his atrocious efficiency and subdued overall production, which is now added to the looming threat of DNPs and nagging injury. Yogi Ferrell will presumably start at point guard in his place but J.J. Barea makes for a better fantasy play. Both are on the table in standard leagues, with Ferrell the add for points and threes and Barea the choice for assists and steals. Devin Harris should also get more playing time but is just a deep league option.
