Mavs point guard of the future Dennis Smith Jr. (hip strain) will play vs. the Pistons on Wednesday.
Coach Rick Carlisle hinted that Smith would be on a minutes restriction so it may take a few games before he has a full workload. If an owner dropped him while he was hurt he is a risk reward add due to his high volume role and upside. However, there is risk that he will hurt you with his inefficiency: 39.5 percent from the field, 66.0 percent from the stripe and 3.0 to/g. If you are punting one one of those categories or play 8-cat then he would be worth the risk. Yogi Ferrell could still have a few more games of relevance if Smith is limited before his value drops. The only possibility Ferrell has is if his recent strong play (top-70 per game) allows him to steal backcourt minutes away from Devin Harris and J.J. Barea. It’s advisable to hold him until we are sure Smith is healthy and doesn’t aggravate his injury, but he is not a must hold.
