Derrick Favors missed Monday’s practice with a sore lower back and is questionable for Game 1 against the Warriors.
Favors averaged 26.3 minutes in the first round, rebounding nicely from a disappointing regular season. While his averages of 10.0 points, 6.4 rebounds, 1.0 steals and 0.6 blocks don’t seem like much across seven games he was thrust into heavy minutes when Rudy Gobert went down in Game 1. Favors had his best game in Game 7, dropping a 17 & 11 double-double in 30 minutes at Staples Center. While he’s not a great on-paper matchup against Golden State, his absence would really overextend Utah’s bench. They could turn to Boris Diaw, Joe Ingles and Joe Johnson for extra minutes, though it’s hard to see how Quin Snyder could wring more production out of the latter two.
