Derrick Williams started for Kristaps Porzingis (illness) in Sunday’s road win over the Lakers, scoring eight points on 3-of-10 shooting with nine rebounds, one assist, two steals and one block in 32 minutes.
Williams would need an injury or two to get the slightest bit of standard league appeal. Porzingis looked sick when reporters saw him at the arena and the only silver lining here is that he gets to rest his legs a little bit more. Carmelo Anthony went for 26 and 12 with four assists, two threes and 4-of-4 hits from the foul line, Robin Lopez went for 16 and eight with two blocks, and Jose Calderon hit the game-winning three with 0.2 seconds left to finish with nine points, three rebounds, six assists and one steal in the win. Calderon is 16-team material at best.
