Frank Vogel told the media that Elfrid Payton is still experiencing hamstring soreness but that he’ll “give it a go” on Friday against the Suns.
That sounds like dangerous territory, as a re-aggravation has the potential to sideline Payton for multiple weeks. That would fritter away Orlando’s hot start pretty quickly, and it’s the type of short-term behavior that you might expect from a team that’s desperate to make the postseason. Payton is definitely not 100 percent but you have to have him active for fantasy purposes so long as he’s playing. Hopefully he can get through this one alright, but don’t be surprised if he ends up playing a little less than usual. Keep Orlando’s backup guard options (Augustin, Mack and Simmons) on your watch lists or deep league rosters for the time being.
