Hassan Whiteside (left hip) said he didn’t know if he’d be able to play on Monday when the Heat face the Blazers.
“I don’t know. With strains it’s pretty tricky. They can last a couple of days; they can go away. I definitely don’t want to go out there and make it worse and then it’s something that’s lingering for month.” The injury was initially called “left hip pain” but the man himself seemed to reveal that it’s a strain. Hopefully it’s not a hip flexor strain, as that could sideline him for a week or more. Whiteside dealt with a lingering knee issue earlier this season so he’s speaking from a place of experience here. He was a very late scratch tonight, allowing Bam Adebayo to draw the start. The rookie was pretty quiet in the blowout win, however, and Kelly Olynyk and James Johnson were much better tonight and make for more appealing fantasy adds if they’re available in your league. Whiteside’s absence would open up plenty of minutes among those three frontcourt players while forcing the Heat to go small more frequently.
