Jrue Holiday will miss an indefinite amount of time as he serves as a caretaker for his wife Lauren, who will need surgery for a brain tumor.
Holiday’s wife is also pregnant and she reportedly has to wait for about six weeks after the child is delivered to have the surgery. From there, his return to basketball activities will be determined by her recovery, according to the New Orleans Picayune-Times. They hope to induce the birth early as soon as late September, but that will be a medical decision that gets made in the coming weeks.
This answers some questions about why the Pelicans added so much guard depth, and along with Tyreke Evans’ knee issues the backcourt of E’Twaun Moore, Langston Galloway and rookie Buddy Hield could get some bigger run early on. Owners should plan on Holiday having a mid-November return if these timetables go long, and of course there will be the risk of some other development keeping him off the floor, but conversely he could also return in late-October if timetables suddenly improve. All of our thoughts and all of our prayers go out to the Holidays right now.
