Kawhi Leonard was on fire during his 24 minutes of action on Sunday, notching 26 points with eight rebounds, three assists and a steal before leaving the game with an ankle injury.
Leonard rolled his ankle and left before returning and rolling it again, this time landing on Zaza Pachulia’s foot. That was enough to keep him out for the rest of the day and could limit him in Game 2 and beyond. While he was on the court, San Antonio was rolling – they had the Warriors doubled up in the first half and owned a 25 point lead at one point. Leonard shot 7-of-13 and was perfect on 11 attempts from the charity stripe. Of course, Golden State ripped off a 16-0 run immediately after Leonard went down and ended up outscoring the Spurs 58-33 to mount a massive comeback win. San Antonio held him out of Game 6 against the Rockets with an ankle problem, but they might not be able to get away without him in Game 2 against the powerful Warriors. For now, expect the MVP candidate to be a game-time call.
