Marcus Morris will not play the first week of the season, according to Michael DePrisco.
Morris arrived to training camp late and out of shape this summer, but head coach Brad Stevens suggested that he is being held out due to a “balky knee.” Stevens mentioned that the sore knee had been bothersome to Morris since the start of camp and believes reevaluating him in the next 10 days to two weeks is the best move. The Celtics had hinted at a likely scenario of starting rookie Jayson Tatum at the four while Morris is out, but also flirted with the idea of starting Aron Baynes at center, shifting Al Horford to the four. Morris can be viewed as a late-round pick, but missing the start of the season and splitting minutes with Tatum and Baynes limits his value mostly to deeper leagues.
