Mike Conley is questionable to play after missing Wednesday’s shootaround, with coach David Fizdale telling Ronald Tillery of The Commercial Appeal that the point guard has been frustrated with his Achilles pain “from day one.”
There have been a few instances of Conley skipping shootaround but still playing this seasons, though Tillery admitted in a follow-up tweet that he’d be surprised if Conley played tonight. More pressing is the fact that this has been a persistent issue, as the worry with this Achilles injury was always its potential to linger. The Grizzlies aren’t good enough to give Conley extended time off and hope to gain ground in the West but it might be smart for them to give him a little rest here. Mario Chalmers would start at point guard in Conley’s absence, though the biggest beneficiary might be the hot Tyreke Evans.
