Gregg Popovich told reporters on Friday that he has never seen an injury like the one that has sidelined Kawhi Leonard (quad), according to ESPN.
“Never, never,” Popovich said when asked whether he has seen such a condition hampering one of his players. “What’s really strange is that [point guard] Tony [Parker] has the same injury, but even worse. They had to go operate on his quad tendon and put it back together or whatever they did to it. So to have two guys, that’s pretty incredible. I had never seen it before those guys.” Pop added that Tony Parker, who had the same injury and whose return has been rumored to be ahead of Kawhi’s, is coming back “very soon.”
ESPN sources added that Leonard has been ‘engaged in on-court work’ but hasn’t advanced far enough to receive clearance to return, which has a wide range of possibilities. Early reports suggested a mid-to-late November return and there hasn’t been much concrete reporting, so a late-November return is probably still in play.
