Rajon Rondo said that doctors told him he’d be out “a couple weeks” with his current thumb injury.
That means that Rondo is essentially out for the rest of the first round, regardless of how long the series goes. It also leaves him highly unlikely to start the second round if Chicago can advance. Jerian Grant and Michael Carter-Williams will pick up the heavy lifting for the duration of their series with Boston. It feels strange to type, but the Bulls will really miss Rondo going forward. He got plenty of open shots for his teammates and really helped out on the glass. We’ll see if Chicago can handle his absence.
