Pelicans coach Alvin Gentry said that it will take “a while” for Rajon Rondo to get back into basketball shape, adding that the point guard hasn’t been able to run or do much beyond ride a stationary bike.
While Rondo was signed to start at point guard, the Pelicans have been playing pretty well with their current guard group and there’s no need for them to gum up the works by forcing a return here. When he does come back, it’ll be very interesting to see how New Orleans fits all these puzzle pieces together. Rondo will be a nice source of assists but doesn’t offer much else. He’s a low-end guard and a questionable stash, so his value really depends on what you need. You can check out Gentry’s full statement below.
