Jeff McDonald of the San Antonio Express-News reports that Kawhi Leonard is not expected to play in Wednesday’s regular season opener, with Gregg Popovich going as far as saying “he won’t be available.”
Leonard missed all of preseason trying to work his way back from a quad injury that apparently lingered from last season. He’s been doing rehab work at the team’s facilities but hasn’t practiced with his teammates since camp began. Owners who haven’t drafted yet can bump Leonard down to the second round since we have little clarity on exactly when he’ll be back. Danny Green and Kyle Anderson will pick up the slack for however long Leonard is sidelined, and you can give a minor bump to the Spurs’ skill players. Rudy Gay just saw his chances of starting go way up.
