Kawhi Leonard will not play against the Celtics on Friday, but Jabari Young of the San Antonio Express-News is reporting that Leonard could make his season debut on Saturday against the Suns barring any setbacks.
The plan is for Leonard to participate in a Thursday workout and then see how he’s feeling on Friday. If all goes well, he’ll travel to Phoenix and suit up in the second half of the back-to-back. For what it’s worth, Kawhi hinted that his return would be in the very near future and said, “It’s been a long wait, but I’m feeling pretty healthy right now.” He’s been working in 5-on-5 drills and his teammates seem upbeat about his recovery, so all signs point to him coming back this weekend. If he does experience a setback and sits on Saturday, the team will take his return on a game-by-game basis into next week.
