Joel Embiid is “very likely” to undergo surgery to repair his torn meniscus, per ESPN’s Marc Stein.
What a bummer. Embiid burst onto the scene as an on-court force and one of the NBA’s biggest and brightest personalities in his abbreviated rookie year. This will cast more doubt on his long-term prospects, as meniscal tears are the sort of thing that can dog a guy for several years. Embiid also has a well-chronicled history of foot problems. It’s a real shame, as Embiid suddenly becomes a very risky guy for all fantasy purposes, even keeper and dynasty formats. On a per-game basis, he was a top-40 guy in 9-cat leagues and a top-20 monster when turnovers were omitted. We’ll wait to hear his recovery timetable and hopefully this doesn’t affect his availability for next season.
