Isaiah Thomas said that rest is the top option in the recovery from his hip injury, though surgery could be necessary after reevaluation.
Thomas missed the final three games of Boston’s postseason run with a painful hip injury that he sustained back in March and re-aggravated in the second round. He should be good to go next year, but that could change if surgery is required. He could be coming back to a very different team with Markelle Fultz presumably on the roster, and Boston’s sudden competitiveness in Games 3 and 4 without him has some people thinking he’d be better suited as a bench piece. Without getting too much into whether that’s sensible or not, the Celtics will be facing a big decision on the future since IT will be a pending free agent next year. Thomas also said that he’d like an extension and wants to stay in Boston, but we’ll see how everything shakes out. There’s no need for the Celtics to rush a decision here.
