Robert Covington has been released from the hospital and has entered the NBA concussion protocol according to Spike Eskin out of Philadelphia.
Details are still sparse but Eskin is plugged in and he doesn’t sound like he has a lot other than what we just relayed. Covington’s injury was scary and along with Jerami Grant’s concussion and Richaun Holmes’ Achilles injury — not to mention somewhat expected news on Jahlil Okafor’s season-ending knee injury — Friday blew a hole into their rotation. Grant is in concussion protocol and we don’t know a lot on Holmes so we’re calling him day-to-day. Holmes is worth a flier pickup if we learn his injury isn’t serious, because he could potentially get 20 or more minutes for the now depleted Philly frontcourt, and his stat set carries some intrigue as a guy who can do a little bit of everything. Grant should be held unless you’re desperate until we get a feel for how serious the concussion is, so needless to say the same applies for Covington.
