Heat forward Rodney McGruder is scheduled for surgery Tuesday to repair a stress fracture in his left tibia, according to Tom D’Angelo of The Palm Beach Post.
The Heat have yet to release a timetable for McGruder, but reports indicate him missing anywhere from three to six months. While it is devastating news, head coach Erik Spoelstra said he expects McGruder to bounce back from the injury. “But I know him as a man,” Spoelstra said. “I know how he’s going to respond to this and he’s going to come back quicker than most human beings. But we’ll do it in a healthy way. And, his spirits haven’t even changed.” The Heat will likely start Josh Richardson on opening night and his stock is rising. Richardson can be viewed as a middle-round pick with triple-one upside.
