Joe Vardon from Cleveland.com is reporting that GM David Griffin and owner Dan Gilbert expect to meet “in the next few days” to discuss Griffin’s contract.
Updating prior reports, Griffin will become a free agent at the end of the month and has gotten attention across the league due to the Cavs success during his tenure. Gilbert wants to keep his GM in Cleveland but Griffin is believed to be looking for a large raise in pay. The Cavs lost last night in Game 5 of the Finals, and appeared to be out of answers for the Warriors’ depth and talent. Griffin has done a great job building around LeBron James but his mid-season acquisitions this year (Kyle Korver and Deron Williams) seemed over-matched and not up to the standard that is required to play against the Warriors. Gilbert has continued to show his support for his team’s construction, last night he was quoted saying that he believes the Cavs have “a great core and a great future.” The question remains, is Griffin part of that future?
