The Celtics made waves by agreeing to deal the top overall selection to the Sixers for a package of picks and may have positioned themselves to go after a number of other superstars, per ESPN’s Chris Forsberg.
The Celtics will obviously be connected to Jimmy Butler and Paul George but Forsberg also suggests that Anthony Davis could be a target. Boston owns seven first round picks over the next three drafts and could deal them to any one of those borderline rebuilding teams to pry away an elite talent. It’d take a mighty trade package to swing a deal, especially for Davis, but Danny Ainge has plenty of tools to work with. Acquiring one of those top-flight players seems like Boston’s best chance at dethroning Cleveland or Golden State in the near future, so while many assumed the picks would be used to emerge as the dominant team of the next era the Celtics may pivot and try to vault themselves into the upper echelon right now.
