In a Boston Herald report from Steve Bulpett, Celtics GM Danny Ainge said he is in no rush to bring 2016 first round pick Ante Zizic stateside and doesn’t want to pile pressure on such a young player.
Zizic is fully expected to join the team next year after posting nice numbers in Turkey as a 20 year old, so this is likely Ainge trying to pump the brakes on the hype train. The Celtics playoff run revealed the team’s need for a rim protector who can help on the glass, and many fans had penciled Zizic in as a major part of the solution. While that may in fact be the case next season, it’d be very tough for a young player to step right in and play such a vital role on a team with championship aspirations. Across 46 games this season, Zizic averaged 12.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 0.9 blocks on .668 from the floor in 22.9 minutes per game.
