This actually makes sense for both parties as the Lakers want to clear salary cap space to chase free agents the next two summers while Deng wants to contribute on the court instead of functioning solely as locker room leader. With $36 million remaining on his contract after this season though it may take weeks, months or even years to settle and a trade seems very unlikely unless the Lakers attach an asset to his contract. After forward Larry Nance Jr. broke a bone in his left hand last week, there was a brief possibility the team might replace him in the starting lineup with the veteran power forward. The emergence of Kyle Kuzma means that Deng will remain on the inactive list so feel free to drop him if you haven’t done so already.
