The Vertical’s Adrian Wojnarowski is reporting that Cavs owner Dan Gilbert is targeting Chauncey Billups as the Cavs’ top executive.
The news comes barely an hour after it was revealed that the Cavs parted ways with their former GM David Griffin. Multiple reports had Griffin working the phones for trades as recent as 6 p.m. ET, so the news comes as a bit of a shock. The Cavs are in an arms race with the Golden State Warriors, so expect them to be very active this offseason. Channing Frye and Iman Shumpert were involved in the latest trade rumors and a Jimmy Butler deal was rumored before Griffin and the Cavs parted ways, though the news of Griffin’s departure surely puts a halt to abrupt moves.
Sources: Cleveland owner Dan Gilbert is targeting Chauncey Billups to become Cavs' top basketball executive. Sides expected to talk soon.
