Word came out yesterday that the Blazers would be willing to package one of their three first round selections and a player to help clear some salary, and now ESPN’s Ian Begley is reporting that the Knicks have entered preliminary discussions on a trade involving Moe Harkless.
The Knicks need an infusion of young talent and picking up another first rounder should be a no-brainer thing for them to at least attempt. As for the Blazers, they would probably prefer to lose the bloated contracts of Meyers Leonard or Evan Turner since Harkless will take up a reasonable $10.1 million on the cap and turned in a productive year. Unfortunately for them, they’re already over the cap and might need to shed salary however they can. Harkless was a top-100 player in Portland last season but probably wouldn’t hit those heights in New York unless the long-rumored trade of Carmelo Anthony comes to fruition.
