Adrian Wojnarowski reports that teams are paying close attention to the Pelicans’ veterans – namely, Jrue Holiday, JJ Redick and Derrick Favors – in the event that they become available via trade.
The Pelicans are losers of 12 straight games and may look to get involved in trade talks later this season. Holiday is signed for two more years beyond this season at a manageable average salary of $26 million a year. He would put any marginal contender over the top and rumors about him figure to heat up if the Pelicans keep trending in the wrong direction. Although Woj doesn’t make explicit mention of Derrick Favors in the podcast, both he and JJ Redick are on short-term deals and probably on the trade block regardless of the Pelicans’ record, with the latter player being the most likely to be dealt as teams try to bolster their outside shooting mid-season. It’s hard to say, but one can cautiously expect a trade for any of these players boosts their fantasy value as they’d become less likely to rest down the stretch.
