The Knicks, down two of their usual four bigs, were forced to turn to Willy Hernangomez on Tuesday and he delivered eight points, three rebounds, five assists and a steal in 18 minutes of work.
Hernagomez is going to be a name to keep in mind as the trade deadline approaches. While his playing time is going to be pretty much non-existent when the Knicks get healthy, there is some serious talk about them trading away either Kyle O’Quinn or Hernangomez himself. Ideally it’s O’Quinn who moves since we’ve seen what Willy can do with the Knicks, though he’d have a much higher ceiling if he somehow landed in a spot without an imposing presence at center or power forward. While he could pretty quickly produce top-100 numbers in the proper playing time, Hernangomez is just a stash for now. We’ll have some resolution by February 8th, if nothing else.
