D’Angelo Russell was unconscious in the first quarter of Tuesday’s game, hitting seven triples and scoring 24 points in the first seven minutes before cooling off and finishing with 32 points, seven rebounds, a steal and two blocks in a 116-102 loss to the Raptors.
Russell was simply electrifying early on, getting hot and then knocking down a couple of heat checks for good measure. His early buckets came on nice ball movement and open looks but he decided to take it upon himself to rain down triples on the last few, and to his credit they all found the bottom of the net. Fred VanVleet put the clamps on in the second quarter and the regression monster took care of the rest. Still, Russell tied for the second-most threes in a quarter in franchise history and got the Nets off to a hot start in a game that they kept competitive for about 40 minutes. He’s been a middle-round guy over the last few weeks and is lined up nicely for a strong finish.
