Gordon Hayward scored 33 points on 11-of-21 shooting (3-of-8 3PTs, 8-of-9 FTs) with five rebounds, four assists and one steal over 40 minutes in the Jazz’s Game 2 loss to the Warriors on Thursday.
Hayward filled up the box score and made plenty of big plays but he wasn’t able to control the tempo of the game in a way the box might suggest. Whether he needs to be more assertive or stop using Rudy Gobert screens to get an edge on his defender — or some other plan — he needs to find a way to help get his teammates playing downhill. That will come with better shot selection and play types, as well as a go-to move against high-end defenders like the Warriors have. Gobert went for 16 & 16 with a steal and block but looked a bit less explosive than normal.
