The Sixers might finally be receiving some good news, as it looks like Dario Saric may be headed to Philadelphia next season. The image below surfaced on reddit this morning, showing a headline in Croatian newspaper Sportske Novostiand. The poster, rahbee33, claims the headline translates to “Dario Saric: 99 percent go to Philadelphia.”
According to CSN Philly, however, Bryan Colangelo – who met with Saric over the weekend – is less certain that the Croatian forward will be joining the team this season. “I wasn’t pessimistic, I wasn’t optimistic. I was somewhat neutral as to whether or not I felt he would be coming over and I still feel that way,” Colangelo said. “I’d like to think that our objectives are aligned. What we’d like to do is get him in to play for us next year.”
There have been whispers since the Sixers’ season ended that Saric was preparing to come to the NBA, and this seems new information seems to corroborate those reports (despite Colangelo’s hedging). The Sixers can only pay a portion of his buyout, so it may be expensive to bring him over, but these negations usually get done.
Saric brings versatility to the Sixers’ front court rotation, and will likely get a chance to start next season if he does come over. He’s an excellent ball handler for a player his size (he’s listed at 6’10” and 233 pounds), and has improved his shooting since being drafted in 2014.
