The Rockets have waived Anthony Bennett.

Bennett joined the Rockets to fight for a roster spot in training camp. However, the former first overall pick had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee which ultimately prevented him from trying to make the team. Hopefully Bennett can have a speedy recovery and return to basketball at some point.

Anthony Bennett is set to have arthroscopic surgery on his left knee.

This is sad news for the former first overall pick of the 2013 draft. He did not travel with the team to Hawaii as they will continue their preseason action. Bennett will likely not make the Rockets roster but could end up signing another non-guaranteed contract with them or another team upon his recovery. He can be ignored in all fantasy formats.

Anthony Bennett has officially signed a non-guaranteed contract with the Rockets.

Bennett, the first pick in the 2013 draft, has not been able to find his footing in the NBA. At just 26 years old, Bennett has already played for four NBA teams in as many seasons while also getting some experience overseas and in the G-League. It is unlikely that Bennett will make the final roster but there will be opportunity for him to play professionally on some level.

The Rockets have signed former first overall draft pick Anthony Bennett to a non-guaranteed deal.

They are adding him to their training camp roster to see what he's got. He's been playing the last few seasons in the G-League for Agua Caliente. Bennet is still a long-shot to make the regular season roster and the Rockets are just kicking some tires to see what's there.

  • Kelly Olynyk
    C/F, Miami Heat

Kelly Olynyk scored 14 points and grabbed nine boards for Canada in Friday’s 97-61 victory over the Dominican Republic.

This tied Canada (4-1) and Dominican Republic (4-1) in the FIBA World Cup qualifiers. A Canadian win against the U.S. Virgin Islands on Monday would lock up first place in Group D. They would then likely play Brazil, Venezuela and Chile in the second round. Dillon Brooks, Melvin Ejim and teenage star R.J. Barrett also had 14 points apiece while Cory Joseph and Dwight Powell chipped in 11 points each. 2013’s No. 1 draft pick Anthony Bennett was the only Canadian player to not enter the game.
