Dallas Mavs

  • Dirk Nowitzki
    PF/C, Dallas Mavericks

Dirk Nowitzki (left knee tendinitis) is listed as questionable to face the Hornets on Saturday.

Nowitzki has missed only one game all year so even with the Mavs in complete tank mode, the 39-year old veteran clearly doesn’t like taking rest days. The Mavs probably won’t push him to play in this one so if he does sit, expect Nerlens Noel to get a turn to play as it was Salah Mejri’s turn last game. Dwight Powell should see a substantial amount of minutes as well

  • J.J. Barea
    PG, Dallas Mavericks

J.J. Barea (left rib muscle strain) is listed as doubtful to face the Nets on Saturday.

Barea has been dealing with this rib issue for the past few days but played in yesterday’s game nonetheless. He has surprisingly stayed relatively healthy all year and is 15th in the NBA in assists per game this year at 6.3 although playing only 23.3 minutes per game. He has been hot lately with 13.5 points, 7.8 assists and 54.8 percent shooting over his last four games but if he can’t go, Yogi Ferrell and Dennis Smith Jr. should have a slight boost, with Kyle Collinsworth seeing all the backup minutes.

  • Harrison Barnes
    SF/PF, Dallas Mavericks

Harrison Barnes (rest) is listed as out on the game notes for Saturday’s matchup against the Nets.

The Mavs have decided to rest Barnes on the second night of a back-to-back. He has been hot with 28.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists over his last two but the Mavs are currently battling for lottery positioning so why not give him a day off. This is only his first rest day of the year but keep in mind, the Mavs have another back-to-back coming up on March 27-28. With Salah Mejri and Dorian Finney-Smith also being ruled out in this one, expect Doug McDermott and Dwight Powell to get plenty of minutes.
